MAMA WELLS GOURMET FOODS
Mama Wells is owned and operated by non other than Andrew Wells a South Carolina native who also lived the majority of his life in Los Angeles California. "I had never heard of or even knew what Baklava was until about 7-8 year ago" He laughed. I had just moved in the neighborhood and had to walk right past their door to get to my house every day. One day one of the workers came out and asked if I knew anybody who wanted to work some extra hrs in Baklava...I was like "Bakawhat?" "Lol" well it went like that almost every other day for a year or so because I kept telling them I didn't know anybody. Finally one holiday season I said "hell let me try" and she was like "whew"thought you would never get the hint lol. I started the next day and to my amazement it was one of the biggest eye opening experiences I had ever encountered. The whole staff took me in like family. They showed me everything I needed to know from washing pots and stocking merchandise to preparing the ingredients and utensils used for preparing the most delicious baklava (a black man preparing baklava was the funniest sight to see lol) but not only did they teach me how to prepared and bake it I became familiar with each and every name of each and every kind of baklava I prepared. I started thinking to myself "If I didn't know much about Baklava before i met these kind folks how many more of my people don't? Well after doing my research low and behold I found almost 9 out of 10 didn't which brings me back to Mama Wells Authentic Baklava. I started making small sample boxes and handing them out on my day job as well as friends and associated around the city, and because it was the best authentic and delicious Baklava and the response was amazing. I then realized it was time to go into business for myself. After talking it over with and getting the blessing from the S I did. I named it after my mother because she always taught me that hard work and a good personality would take me places educational degrees and big money might not....and she was right (love you ma). Now I've set up my own entity, my own customers and better yet my own sales....And the beautiful thing is its a fully owned and operated black business selling merchandise and product that any all nationalities can enjoy.....I love that
